Mexico's finished steel output rises 5.2% in Jan-May 2026

Mexico's finished steel production reached 7.61 million metric tons in the first five months of 2026, up 5.2% from 7.2 million metric tons in the same period of 2025, according to data from the National Chamber for the Iron and Steel Industry (CANACERO). In May alone, finished steel output surged 18.1% year-on-year to 1.57 million metric tons, compared with 1.33 million metric tons in May 2025.
Total steel production in May jumped 34.9% to 1.3 million metric tons, up from 965,000 metric tons in the same month last year.
Finished steel consumption in Mexico rose 1.2% during the January–May period, totaling 10.88 million metric tons, versus 10.74 million metric tons a year earlier. In May, consumption climbed 11.3% year-on-year to 2.21 million metric tons, up from 1.99 million metric tons in May 2025.
