India's JSW Steel Limited has commenced construction of a 2 million metric tons per annum integrated steel mill in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of $1.72 billion, according to a company statement released on Monday, July 6.
The project is being executed by its wholly-owned subsidiary, JSW Rayalseem Steel Limited, which is developing the low-carbon emission steel plant across two phases, the company said.
A key highlight of the project is its strong focus on lower-carbon steel production. The facility is designed as a green steel plant and will employ scrap-based electric arc furnace (EAF) technology powered by renewable energy sources. The company noted that this approach is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions compared to conventional steelmaking processes.
