Tongguan Mine Construction secures two overseas mining contracts

Tongguan Mining Construction (Zambia) Co., Ltd., an overseas subsidiary of Tongguan Mining Construction, recently signed a contract with CNMC Africa Mining Co., Ltd. to undertake the outsourced mining and tunnelling works at the Southeast Orebody of the Chambishi Copper Mine in Zambia for the 2026–2027 period. The contract is valued at approximately USD92 million, covering a construction period from July 1, 2026 to December 31, 2027.
The scope of work includes development, drilling and blasting preparation, cutting, stoping, ground support, loading, trackless haulage, system installation, and other ancillary works.
As early as late 2024, the Zambian subsidiary secured the 2024–2025 outsourced mining and tunnelling contract for the same mine, valued at USD130 million. In July 2025, operations were temporarily suspended due to a production halt at the Southeast Orebody. The project resumed on January 2, 2026, with the contract term extended to June 30, 2026. With this renewed mandate for the 2026–2027 term, Tongguan Mining Construction stated that the agreement is expected to have a positive impact on its operational performance, market expansion, and brand recognition.
The latest contract comes on the heels of a series of major overseas deals announced by the company. On June 30, Tongguan disclosed a separate agreement for the Cuia-Mavoio copper mine project in Uíge Province, Angola, with an estimated total value of approximately USD230 million. That project includes an 18-month construction phase followed by a 60-month production period.
