Metals Australia Ltd, through its wholly owned Canadian subsidiary Northern Resources Inc., has announced positive results from the Prefeasibility Study for its proposed open-cut mine and flake graphite concentrate plant at the Lac Carheil Graphite Project in Quebec, Canada.
The study confirms that the upstream component of the company's fully integrated graphite project is economically viable on a standalone basis and is well-positioned to support future battery supply chains in North America and globally. The project is expected to produce 101,241 tonnes of high-purity graphite concentrates annually over a 24-year mine life.
The project is underpinned by a maiden Ore Reserve of 21.51 million tonnes, grading 11.14% Cg, representing approximately 2.4 million tonnes of contained graphite.
Located near Fermont, the project benefits from access to established regional infrastructure and nearby communities. It is expected to create 143 full-time jobs starting in 2030, with employment increasing to 183 personnel over the life of the project.
