UAE preliminary findings confirm dumping of Chinese heavy sections

A preliminary report issued by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Trade on June 25, 2026, has confirmed that imports of heavy sections from China have caused material injury to the domestic steel industry.
The investigation, initiated following a complaint filed by Emirates Steel-the sole local producer of these products-revealed a price undercutting margin of 21%, along with evidence of price suppression that has adversely affected domestic manufacturers.
During the probe period covering July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, and the injury assessment period from January 1, 2021, to June 30, 2025, Chinese imports totaled 177,800 tons. This volume accounted for 49.6% of the UAE's total imports of these products, representing a staggering 509% increase compared to 2021.
The products subject to the investigation are hot-rolled heavy sections made of iron, non-alloy steel, or alloy steel, including U-sections (HS code 721631), I-sections (HS code 721632), H-sections (HS code 721633), and certain alloy steel angles and shapes (HS 722870).
