Western Hydropower unveils 500ktpy green aluminum capacity replacement plan

The Department of Industry and Information Technology of Qinghai Province published the capacity replacement plan for the 600kA green aluminum 500,000tpy upgrading and transformation project of Qinghai Provincial Investment Western Hydropower. The plan was released for public consultation on June 29, 2026, with feedback accepted through July 13, 2026.
The project will be located in the Minhe Industrial Park of Haidong Industrial Park in Qinghai Province, and will install 312 units of 600kA electrolytic cells, with construction scheduled to begin in June 2027 and commissioning planned for July 2028.
As part of the capacity replacement, 236 units of 240kA electrolytic cells, 272 units of 420kA electrolytic cells as well as 47 units of 350kA electrolytic cells, equivalent to a total capacity of 500,000tpy, will be dismantled before the new project is completed and reaches operation.
