According to the Vietnam Steel Association (VSA), finished steel production in the country reached 3.24 million metric tons in May of this year, marking a 15.6% year-on-year increase. Steel product sales for the same month rose 5.4% year on year to 3.04 million metric tons.
Over the January-to-May period, steel production grew 14.5% year on year to 14.91 million metric tons, while sales increased 12.9% to 14.93 million metric tons---signaling continued improvement in market demand despite headwinds from the international trade environment.
During the same five-month period, Vietnam's finished steel exports rose 8% year on year to 2.26 million metric tons.
The outlook for the second half of 2026 remains optimistic. Accelerated disbursement of public investment, a gradual recovery in the real estate sector, and stable demand from manufacturing are all expected to sustain growth momentum for the domestic steel industry.
