Brazilian steel output and domestic sales rise in May 2026

Brazil's crude steel production reached 2.769 million metric tons in May 2026, up from 2.709 million metric tons in the same month last year, according to data from the Brazilian Steel Institute (IABR).
On a year-on-year basis, rolled product output edged up 0.7% to 2.030 million metric tons. Within this category, flat steel production rose 3.0% to 1.227 million metric tons, while long steel production fell 2.5% to 803,000 metric tons.
Domestic steel product sales grew 1.3% year-on-year to 1.8 million metric tons. Meanwhile, apparent steel consumption declined 14.1% to 2.100 million metric tons. Exports plunged 62.4% to 645,000 metric tons, and imports dropped 55.4% to 312,000 metric tons during the period.
