Hudbay Minerals officially marked the start of the New Ingerbelle expansion project at its Copper Mountain mine in British Columbia on Tuesday, celebrating the milestone with a groundbreaking ceremony.
The expansion is expected to extend the mine's operational life beyond 2040 while enhancing efficiency and sustaining long-term copper output. Designed to target higher-grade mineralization, the New Ingerbelle project benefits from a stripping ratio approximately three times lower than that of the current mining zones, promising improved cost efficiency.
Based on current reserve estimates, New Ingerbelle is forecast to deliver approximately 750,000 tonnes of copper, 900,000 ounces of gold, and 5.5 million ounces of silver over its remaining mine life.
The original Ingerbelle pit was previously mined during two separate periods: from 1972 to 1980, and again between 1995 and 1996.
The project received its key mining permits from the British Columbia Major Mines Office on February 19, following a comprehensive review process that commenced in April 2025.
