Latin America's crude steel production saw a modest increase in March, while rolled steel output, exports, and imports declined-pointing to mixed conditions in the regional steel market amid persistently weak demand from key consuming sectors.
According to data from the Latin American Steel Association (Alacero), crude steel production in Latin America reached 4.9 million metric tons in March, up 1.1% year on year. However, first-quarter output fell by 1.9% to 13.9 million metric tons.
Rolled steel production dropped 2.2% year on year in March to 4.4 million metric tons, bringing the January-March total to 12.6 million metric tons-a 1.8% decrease compared to the same period in 2025.
Apparent rolled steel consumption remained nearly flat at 6.5 million metric tons, rising by just 0.1% year on year.
