Metro Mining shipped 604,000 wet metric tonnes of bauxite from its Bauxite Hills Mine in Cape York, North Queensland, during May 2026. This represents a 45% increase compared to the previous month.
The company attributed the significant boost in shipping throughput to the return of the Offshore Floating Terminal Ikamba from its statutory dry dock.
To date, Metro has shipped 1.12 million wet metric tonnes of bauxite. This figure is 5% below the same period in 2025, which the company says reflects the absence of Ikamba during part of the period and the impact of Tropical Cyclone Narelle.
With full transhipment capacity now restored, throughput is expected to be weighted toward the second half of 2026.
In May, Metro also mined 580,000 wet metric tonnes of bauxite. As shipping throughput ramps up, the operation has been drawing on port stocks.
The company's calendar year shipment guidance for 2026 remains at 6.6 million to 7.1 million wet metric tonnes.
Metro Mining is a bauxite producer and explorer. The company wholly owns the Bauxite Hills Mine, located on the Weipa bauxite plateau, approximately 95 kilometres north of Weipa.
