Ukraine reports 6.1% drop in pig iron output for January-May 2026

In May 2026, Ukraine's pig iron output reached 634,400 tonnes, according to data released by the Ukrainian Steel Association Ukrmetallurgprom. This represents a 14.5% increase compared to the previous month, but a 1.6% decline year on year.
During the same month, the country's crude steel production rose by 21.7% month on month, while falling by 1% year on year, to 629,400 tonnes. Rolled steel production came in at 537,800 tonnes, up 16.7% from April and 2.5% higher than in May 2025.
For the first five months of 2026, Ukraine produced 2.88 million tonnes of pig iron, down 6.1% year on year. Crude steel output for the January–May period totalled 2.99 million tonnes, a decrease of 0.6% compared to the same period in 2025. Rolled steel production amounted to 2.34 million tonnes, falling by 6.7% year on year.
