New Zealand launches safeguard probe on aluminum extrusions

New Zealand's Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) has initiated a safeguard investigation into certain aluminum extrusion products. The official notification from the New Zealand delegation was released to the WTO Committee on Safeguards on May 28, 2026.
The products under investigation are aluminum alloy profiles, bars, and rods manufactured through the extrusion process, classified under New Zealand tariff codes 7604.21.00 00B (hollow profiles) and 7604.29.09 00F (other). These goods contain metallic elements from the 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, or 7 Aluminum Association alloy series and include extrusions in worked or unworked form, with mill, mechanical, anodized, painted, or coated finishes.
Due to existing trade agreements with New Zealand, Australia and Singapore are excluded from this investigation.
