Canada will extend its tariff-rate quotas and tariff relief on certain US steel and aluminum imports by one year, Finance Minister Fran?ois-Philippe Champagne said on Wednesday, citing the need to protect workers from global excess capacity and provide longer-term certainty for the industry.
The extensions, which are subject to cabinet approval, would run until June 27 and June 30, 2027, respectively, the government said in a statement. Imports exceeding the quota limits will continue to face a 50% tariff.
