Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd (IMFA) reported ferro chrome production of 267,301 tonnes in FY'26, up 3% year-on-year from 260,190 tonnes in FY'25. Ferro chrome sales also increased marginally during the fiscal year, reaching 270,124 tonnes. Meanwhile, chrome ore production posted a sharper growth of 16% year-on-year, rising to 810,612 tonnes from 701,863 tonnes in the previous fiscal year, supported by improved mining operations and higher underground ore output.
According to the company, ferro chrome production is expected to reach an annualized level of 500,000 tonnes by the end of the calendar year, backed by chrome ore production of 1 million tonnes in FY'27---a milestone in itself.
IMFA's strategic acquisition of the 100,000 tpa ferro chrome facility at Kalinganagar (KNR 2) became fully operational in March 2026. In addition, the company's greenfield expansion project (KNR 1) is in its final execution stage, with pre-commissioning activities expected to begin in June 2026. Upon completion, IMFA's total ferro chrome production capacity is expected to exceed 500,000 tonnes per annum, strengthening its position in both the domestic and global ferro chrome markets.
