Australia's BlueScope Steel Limited initially lodged an application for an anti-dumping (AD) investigation into zinc-coated (galvanized) steel from South Korea and Vietnam on April 30, but withdrew it on May 22. The company has now submitted a new application seeking to restart the investigation.
According to the Anti-Dumping Commission (ADC), BlueScope claims that galvanized steel from South Korea and Vietnam has been sold into the Australian market at lower prices, and that this dumping has caused material injury to Australia's domestic steel industry.
The renewed AD application targets five companies: South Korea's Dongkuk Steel Mill Co Ltd, Dongkuk Coated Metal Co Ltd, and Posco Holdings Inc., as well as Vietnam's Hoa Sen Group Joint Stock Company and Nam Kim Steel Joint Stock Company. Notably, the previous application did not mention Dongkuk Coated Metal.
The products under investigation are flat-rolled steel, plated or coated with zinc, with a thickness of 0.3 mm to 3.5 mm inclusive, of any width, in either coil or sheet form. Excluded from the investigation are painted, pre-painted, electro-galvanized, and corrugated products, as well as aluminum-zinc alloy-coated goods.
The Anti-Dumping Commission is expected to issue the Statement of Essential Facts (SEF) by September 9, 2026, and finalize the case by October 26, 2026.
