The R&D center of Shaanxi Nonferrous Yulin New Materials Group Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Central South University, has completed semi-continuous casting tests for 800MPa-grade 7-series high-strength aluminum alloy. High-quality ingots with a diameter of 267mm and an alloy element content exceeding 16% have been produced.
The 800MPa-grade 7-series aluminum alloy enables aluminum to replace titanium in certain extreme working conditions. However, its high alloy element content tends to cause ingot cracking and uneven microstructure, which have long hampered industrial technological progress.
During the joint research, Central South University designed the alloy system and optimized element ratios, while Yulin New Materials Group's R&D center developed casting processes, solving the technical bottlenecks in casting highly alloyed aluminum products.
