World crude steel output down in April

Global crude steel production fell 1.9% year on year in April 2026 to 153.4 million tonnes, according to the World Steel Association (worldsteel). For the January–April period, global output declined 2.0% to 613.3 million tonnes.
In Asia and Oceania, production edged down 1.3% YoY to 114.2 million tonnes. China produced 83.6 million tonnes, down 2.8% YoY, while India recorded a 3.9% YoY increase to 13.8 million tonnes. South Korea's output rose 4.8% YoY to 5.2 million tonnes, and Japan saw a marginal gain of 0.3% YoY to 6.6 million tonnes.
EU-27 crude steel output slipped 1.8% YoY to 11.0 million tonnes. Within the region, Turkey increased production by 9.4% YoY to 3.3 million tonnes, and Germany grew 9.5% YoY to 3.2 million tonnes.
North American output climbed 6.9% YoY to 9.4 million tonnes, led by the United States, which produced 7.2 million tonnes, up 9.4% YoY. In South America, production rose 3.1% YoY to 3.4 million tonnes, with Brazil up 2.8% YoY to 2.7 million tonnes.
