Kazakhstan-based steelmaker Qarmet has begun building a new rolling mill at its Temirtau plant, marked by the erection of the first metal support structure. The company said the project will substantially broaden its range of high-value-added steel products and strengthen its downstream processing capacity.
The rolling complex is designed with an annual production capacity of 540,000 metric tonnes. It will turn out high-strength A600 and A1000 grade rebar, as well as angles and channels, serving both domestic and export markets. Qarmet noted that the investment is part of a long-term strategy centred on technological modernisation, greater production efficiency and a shift toward higher-value steel.
The mill is one of several major modernisation projects currently in progress at the Temirtau steelworks. Other investments underway include the construction of coke oven batteries No. 8 and 9, the launch of a new hot-dip galvanising and polymer coating line, and the development of a modern casting and rolling complex.
Through these projects, Qarmet aims to reinforce its position in construction steel markets, broaden its portfolio of value-added products, and enhance the operational efficiency and technological capabilities of its Temirtau production facilities.
