Canada Trilogy Metals announced on May 15, 2026, that its flagship Arctic polymetallic project in northwestern Alaska's Ambler Mining District has been admitted into the FAST-41 federal permitting programme, a milestone that could accelerate development of what is regarded as one of the world's highest-grade undeveloped deposits.
FAST-41, established in 2025, is designed to streamline federal environmental reviews and permitting for major infrastructure and critical mineral projects. The Arctic project is being advanced through a 50/50 joint venture between Trilogy Metals and Australia's South32.
"This is one of the most significant milestones in the Arctic project's history," said President and CEO Tony Giardini.
The deposit is positioned as a major future domestic source of copper and zinc, both classified as critical minerals by the US government. Company figures indicate an indicated resource of 35.7 million tonnes grading 2.98% copper and 4.09% zinc, equating to roughly 2.35 million pounds of copper and 3.22 billion pounds of zinc, alongside meaningful quantities of lead, gold and silver.
