Tsingshan seeks LME listing for Indonesian aluminum

China's Tsingshan Holding Group has applied to have aluminum produced by its Indonesian joint venture, Hua Chin, approved for delivery against London Metal Exchange (LME) contracts, according to a bourse notice released on Thursday.
If the application is approved, Hua Chin-a partnership between Tsingshan and fellow Chinese firm Huafon Group-would become only the second Indonesian high-grade primary aluminum brand to be accepted by the LME, following state-owned Inalum.
The application comes as Indonesia increases its aluminum production and exports, potentially helping to offset supply disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
According to the LME notice, the second phase of the Hua Chin project, located on the island of Sulawesi, began operations this year and has an annual production capacity of 480,000 metric tons of aluminum ingots.
Tsingshan is best known as the world's largest nickel producer. Nickel cathodes from its Indonesian affiliate, PT Eternal Nickel Industry, are already eligible for delivery against the LME's nickel contract.
