Turkey's steel production growth continues in Q1 2026

According to a statement released by the Turkish Steel Producers' Association (TCUD), Turkey-the world's eighth-largest steelmaking country-saw its crude steel production increase by 6.4% year-on-year in March, reaching 3.3 million metric tons. In the first quarter of 2026, production rose by 5.3% year-on-year to 9.7 million metric tons.
In March, Turkey's billet and slab production amounted to 1.88 million metric tons and 1.45 million metric tons, respectively, marking a 4.6% decrease for billet and a 25.1% increase for slab compared to the same month last year. During the January-March period, billet production fell by 1.6% year-on-year to 5.74 million metric tons, while slab production rose by 17.1% to 3.99 million metric tons.
In March, finished steel consumption in Turkey grew by 20.9% year-on-year to 3.3 million metric tons. Over the first quarter, finished steel consumption increased by 8.9% year-on-year to 9.9 million metric tons.
