Global DRI output falls 11.2% year on year in March 2026

According to data released by the World Steel Association (Worldsteel), global direct reduced iron (DRI) production in March 2026 across 12 countries-which together accounted for approximately 85% of total world DRI output in 2025-reached 9.17 million metric tons. This represents a 3.6% increase compared to the previous month but an 11.2% decline year on year.
In the first three months of 2026, worldwide DRI output totaled 28.42 million metric tons, up 2.4% from the same period in 2025.
Worldsteel's data shows that India remained the largest DRI producer among the surveyed countries in March 2026, with output reaching 5.36 million metric tons for the month. India was followed by Iran (1.00 million metric tons), Russia (725,000 metric tons), and Egypt (614,000 metric tons).
