HBIS Resources Co., Ltd. announced that production at Phase I of Palabora copper mine in South Africa has resumed, while Phase II is expected to restart in early April.
The mine is operated by Palabora Copper Proprietary Limited, a subsidiary of HBIS Resources. Mining operations were temporarily affected after severe flooding hit South Africa's Limpopo Province and neighboring Mpumalanga Province, the most serious rainfall event in the region since 2000. The floods caused water accumulation in parts of the underground workings and impacted several key facilities. No injuries were reported.
As of March 18, the company held approximately 100 million tonnes of magnetite in surface stockpiles. Surface magnetite production and shipments are continuing normally, with full-year sales expected to reach 10 million tonnes.
The temporary disruption to underground mining activities is expected to affect the company's annual copper production and sales plans.
