Rio Tinto teams up with CATL to drive low-carbon mining

On March 3, Rio Tinto signed a memorandum of understanding with China's CATL to strengthen cooperation on the electrification of mining operations and commercial pathways for the recycling of battery materials and critical minerals. Under the agreement, the two companies will explore circular economy solutions and new business models to support the low-carbon transition of the mining sector.
CATL will contribute its expertise in battery technology, system integration and clean energy solutions to help Rio Tinto improve efficiency and accelerate decarbonization and electrification.
Rio Tinto's portfolio includes iron ore, copper, aluminum, lithium and other mineral resources. The partnership aims to develop globally benchmark zero-carbon mining solutions to support the industry's energy transition.
