On January 30, Huayou Cobalt's holding subsidiary HYD Investment Limited signed a framework agreement with PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (ANTAM) and PT Industri Baterai Indonesia (IBC). Under the agreement, the three parties plan to develop an integrated battery industry chain project in Indonesia.
The project will cover multiple segments, including mining, pyrometallurgy (RKSBF/RKEF), hydrometallurgy (HPAL), refining, precursor and cathode materials, battery manufacturing, and battery recycling, enabling full integration across the battery value chain from resource extraction to end products.
Planned capacities include annual output of 100,000 tonnes of nickel (in metal content) from the pyrometallurgical facilities and 50,000 tonnes of nickel from the HPAL project. The refining and precursor facilities are designed for 105,000 tonnes per year of precursors, while cathode material capacity is set at 30,000 tonnes per year. The battery plant will have an annual capacity of 20 GWh of nickel-based batteries, with battery recycling capacity capped at 10,000 tonnes per year.
