Sunstone and Huayang Group join forces on carbon material project

Sunstone Development Co., Ltd. has signed a joint venture agreement with Huayang New Material Technology Group Co., Ltd. to establish Shanxi Sunstone Huayang Carbon Material Co., Ltd. for the construction of 200,000tpa high-current-density, energy-efficient carbon material project, along with a waste heat power generation unit.
The joint venture, with an estimated registered capital of RMB360 million (USD50.59 million), will be 85% owned by Sotum Sunstone Development and 15% owned by Huayang Group.
Once completed, the project will supply carbon materials to Shanxi Zhaofeng Aluminum & Power New Material Co., Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Huayang Group, which plans to build a 394,000tpa primary aluminum project nearby.
The partnership combines the strengths of both companies and supports Sunstone's expansion of prebaked anode production capacity in Northern China.
