Houwang Copper Mine to launch copper cathode upgrade project

Shanshan Houwang Copper Mine Co., Ltd. has entered the second round of environmental review for its planned upgrade project, designed to produce 3,000 tonnes of copper cathode annually.
The project will convert the company's existing flotation workshop into an electrowinning facility and build new leaching and copper extraction workshops. Once completed, it will process 500,000 tonnes of low-grade oxidized copper ore per year, producing 3,000 tonnes of copper cathode.
With a total investment of RMB50 million (USD7.03 million), including RMB2.76 million (USD0.39 million) for environmental protection, the project is expected to take about three months to complete, according to the EIA disclosure by Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region Ecological and Environment Protection Industry Association.
