Orient Tantalum to source Fe-Ta-Nb alloys from Brazil's Taboca

Ningxia Orient Tantalum Industry Co., Ltd. plans to sign a ferro-tantalum-niobium alloy purchase agreement with Brazilian company Mineracao Taboca S.A., under which Taboca will supply the raw materials to Orient Tantalum.
Orient Tantalum intends to purchase approximately 3,000 tonnes of ferro tantalum-niobium alloy, with an estimated transaction value of RMB540 million (USD74.03 million). The final contract price will be negotiated each month based on the arithmetic average of Asian Metal's niobium ore price and Argus' niobium ore price over the three months preceding the bill of lading date.
Taboca operates an integrated mining and metallurgy business. Its assets include the producing Pitinga polymetallic tin-tantalum-niobium mine, the Pirapora tin smelter, a ferro tantalum-niobium alloy smelting plant, and a dedicated UHE hydropower station that supplies electricity to the mine. The Pitinga mine and ferroalloy plant are located in the state of Amazonas, while the Pirapora smelter is in Sao Paulo state.
As of December 2023, the Pitinga mine had proven ore reserves of 187 million tonnes, containing 278,000 tonnes of tin, 385,000 tonnes of niobium oxide, and 49,000 tonnes of tantalum oxide, at 0.148% Sn, 0.206% Nb2O5, and 0.026% Ta2O5. The company's main products include refined tin and ferro-tantalum-niobium alloys, with an annual output of approximately 6,000 tonnes of refined tin and 4,000 tonnes of ferro-tantalum, ferro-niobium, and ferro-tantalum-niobium alloys.
