Myanmar's Wa State is preparing to resume mining operation at tin mines in its territory as the Bureau of Industry and Mining issued a guideline for obtaining relevant licences on February 26
Based on an annual output of approximately 35,000t of tin in concentrate before the mining ban in Wa State came into effect, it is projected that tin production in Myanmar will reach at least 25,000t in 2025, more than 10,000t higher compared to the previous year.
In 2024, China imported a total of 15,000 metal tons of tin concentrate from Wa State. With the recovery of mining operations in the region, it is expected that more than 20,000 metal tons of tin ore will be imported to China from Wa State in 2025 . Globally, an additional 6,500 tons of production is anticipated in 2025, primarily from new projects in Africa and China . Overall, considering the recovery of mining in Wa State and the progress of new mining projects, the total increase in global tin ore production in 2025, including new output and recovered production, is expected to reach 15,000 metal tons.
. According to insiders, it might take about a month to see mining output since restarting operation.Based on an annual output of approximately 35,000t of tin in concentrate before the mining ban in Wa State came into effect, it is projected that tin production in Myanmar will reach at least 25,000t in 2025, more than 10,000t higher compared to the previous year.
