On November 29, SAIC Motor R&D Innovation Headquarters debuted the second generation of its self-developed magnesium alloy cases for EV drive system using semi-solid metal processing (SSP) technique, becoming the world's first application for magnesium alloy cases of electrical drive system in mass-production EVs.
The product uses magnesium alloy AZ91D and the total weight of the case is 13.7kg . The semi-solid processing technique greatly improved the strength, elongation and corrosion resistance of magnesium alloy materials, making it possible for mass production and applications in new energy vehicles.
The second-generation magnesium alloy product is expected to promote automotive lightweighting and help achieve the global carbon neutrality goal. Meanwhile, this technical innovation will lead the overall development of the magnesium alloy industrial chain and further strengthen China's leading position in the global R&D and application of magnesium materials.
