BEIJING (Asian Metal) 28 Apr 24 - The demand for graphite electrode in China remained weak over the past two weeks and producers cut prices. Current mainstream prices for UHP graphite electrode D600mm in China keep at RMB15,600-16,100/t (USD2,153-2,222/t) EXW, down by RMB400/t (USD55/t) from one week ago and producers anticipate lower prices in the coming two weeks because of the weakened demand.
A producer of graphite electrode in Anhui reports that they now quote RMB15,800/t (USD2,180/t) delivered including the freight of RMB200/t (USD28/t) for UHP graphite electrode D600mm as the best sales price and sold around 30t in the middle of this week, compared with the best price of RMB16,300/t (USD2,249/t) delivered one week ago. "We have to cut the price due to the weakened demand and I think the price would go down further in the coming two weeks," says the source, noting that their overall sales volume would slip by around 100tpm because of the anti-dumping investigation from Japan.
Based on the production capacity of 21,000tpy and one production line, they produced around 1,500t in March and the volume would remain stable this month with no stock now. They produced close to 6,000t so far this year and around 15,000t in total last year.
A Shanxi-based graphite electrode producer confirms that they could accept RMB15,800/t (USD2,180/t) delivered including the freight of RMB200/t (USD28/t) for UHP graphite electrode D600mm as the best price now and sold around 100t at the price in the middle of this week, while the best price stood at RMB16,000/t (USD2,208/t) delivered early this week and RMB16,500/t (USD2,277/t) delivered early this month. "End users watch the market now leading to weak demand," says the source, who predicts that mainstream prices would slip further in the coming two weeks and holds around 100t in stock now . They did not keep stock early this month.
The producer, with two production lines and the total production capacity of 35,000tpy, would produce around 1,000t this month, the same as last month. They produced close to 4,000t so far this year and around 3,000t in total last year.
