BEIJING (Asian Metal) 25 Apr 24 - Encouraged by increased prices and tight supply of large flake graphite, most producers raised their prices in the past two weeks. The current mainstream prices of Chinese expansible graphite 99 80 250 stand at RMB12,500-13,000/t (USD1,736-1,805/t) EXW D/A 180 days, up by about RMB200/t (USD27/t) from early last week
A producer in north China now quotes RMB13,000/t (USD1,805/t) EXW D/A 180 days with a concession of RMB200/t (USD27/t) at most for expansible graphite 99 80 250, while they held the same offer but could sell at the price as low as RMB12,600/t (USD1,750/t) two weeks ago. "We made a decision to lift our price late last week as their supplier lifted the price of flake graphite +895 increased by RMB100/t (USD14/t) encouraged by no inventory," the producer disclosed, adding that they sold around 20t at RMB13,000/t (USD1,805/t) this morning, compared to about 60t at RMB12,800/t (USD1,777/t) last weekend . However, facing strong refusals to higher price from their regular clients, the producer plans to hold their price unchanged and believes that the mainstream prices of Chinese expansible graphite would keep steady in the coming week.
Based on a production capacity of 25,000tpy, they produced about 14,000t in 2023 and expect a similar output this year. They plan to produce 1,000t in April, in line with March . Now they have about 100t in stock, unchanged from late March.
"As our regular supplier increased the price of large flake graphite by RMB100/t (USD14/t) last week, we raised our quotation for expansible graphite 95 80 250 from RMB11,000/t (USD1,527/t) last week to RMB11,200/t (USD1,555/t) EXW D/A 180 days this week," another producer in north China revealed, adding that they could offer a concession of RMB100/t (USD14/t) at most for regular clients. They closed no deal so far this week and last sold about 40t at RMB11,000/t (USD1,527/t) early last week . For flat sales, they intend to keep their price stable and predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese expansible graphite would remain unchanged in the coming week.
