BEIJING (Asian Metal) 4 Apr 24 - Graphite electrode prices in China kept firm over the past week and producers anticipate steady prices in the coming week. Present mainstream prices for HP graphite electrode D500mm in China stand at RMB14,000-14,500/t (USD1,935-2,004/t) EXW, stable from one week ago. Due to the increased coal tar pitch price, graphite electrode producers decline cheaper prices now.
A producer of graphite electrode in Anhui reports that they now maintain the best sales price of RMB14,500/t (USD2,004/t) delivered for HP graphite electrode D500mm with the freight around RMB180/t (USD25/t) and lately sold around 100t one week ago at RMB14,500/t (USD2,004/t) delivered. "We suffer losses now and could not accept lower prices," says the source, who keeps no stock now and anticipates flat prices in the coming week.
With the production capacity of 21,000tpy and one production line, they produced around 1,500t last month and the volume might keep stable in April. They produced around 4,500t in the Q1 and around 15,000t in total last year.
A Shanxi-based graphite electrode producer confirms that they could not accept prices below RMB15,500/t (USD2,142/t) EXW for UHP graphite electrode D500mm and offer RMB16,000/t (USD2,212/t) EXW now. "We sold around 300t at around RMB15,500/t (USD2,142/t) EXW early this month," reveals the source, noting that the best quotation they received for coal tar pitch now touches RMB6,000/t (USD829/t) delivered and they suffer losses. They plan to maintain the best sales price in the coming week.
Based on two production lines and the total production capacity of 35,000tpy, they might produce 1,000t in April, the same as last month, with present semi-finished inventories around 8,000t. They produced around 3,000t so far this year and around 3,000t in total last year.
