BEIJING (Asian Metal) 3 Apr 24 - Owing to the weak demand and decreased coal prices, most producers slightly lowered their prices to compete for orders in the past week. The current mainstream prices of Chinese caustic calcined magnesia 85%min 200mesh stand at RMB670-700/t (USD93-98/t) EXW D/A 180 days, down by RMB20/t (USD2.80/t) from early last week
"We now offer RMB700/t (USD98/t) EXW D/A 180 days for caustic calcined magnesia 85%min 200mesh, and could sell at the price as low as RMB670/t (USD93/t) for orders over 200t, while we refused to sell at any price lower than RMB690/t (USD96/t) early last week. The coal prices moved down by about RMB60/t (USD8.40/t) in the past week," a producer in Liaoning revealed, adding that they closed no deal so far this week and last sold about 200t at RMB690/t (USD96/t) early last week . They sold about 3,000t in March, around 4,000t in February and over 8,000t in January . Considering that the coal prices already stabilized this week and the margin still remains thin, they refuse to lower their prices further and believe that the mainstream prices of Chinese caustic calcined magnesia would keep flat in the coming week.
With a production capacity of 300,000tpy, they recorded an output of about 50,000t in 2023 and already produced about 20,000t in 2024. They plan to produce about 5,000t in April, unchanged MoM . Now they have an inventory of about 3,000t, up by about 3,000t MoM.
"We now offer RMB690/t (USD96/t) EXW D/A 180 days for caustic calcined magnesia 85%min 200mesh with a concession of RMB20/t (USD2.80/t) at most for regular clients, while they held the same quotation but refuse any counteroffer early last week," another producer disclosed, explaining that the coal prices dropped by RMB60-70/t (USD8 . 40-9.80/t) last week. They sold about 60t at RMB670/t (USD93/t) this morning, compared to about 40t at RMB690/t (USD96/t) early last week .
