Chinese graphite prices to stabilize

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 28 Mar 24 - With the prices of large flake graphite stabilizing this week, the current mainstream prices of Chinese expansible graphite 99 80 250 keep unchanged from late last week at RMB12,300-12,800/t (USD1,720-1,790/t) EXW D/A 180 days. As large flake graphite producers expect to resume production successively from mid April, expansible producers intend to hold their prices unchanged based on stabilized raw material prices. Insiders predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese expansible graphite would keep stable in the coming week.
"Our supplier of flake graphite +895 didn't raise their price further this week as they plan to resume production in two weeks. Therefore, we keep our quotation for expansible graphite 99 80 250 stable from late last week at RMB13,000/t (USD1,818/t) EXW D/A 180 days now, and still refuse to sell at any price lower than RMB12,600/t (USD1,762/t)," a producer in Liaoning revealed, adding that their regular clients already showed firm refusals to higher prices last week. They sold about 60t yesterday and about 100t last Thursday both at RMB12,600/t (USD1,762/t). Considering the stabilized production cost, they plan to hold their prices steady and believe that the mainstream prices of Chinese expansible graphite would stabilize in the coming week.
Based on a production capacity of 25,000tpy, they produced about 14,000t in 2023 and expect a similar output this year. They plan to produce 1,000t in March, up by about 1,000t from February. Now they have about 100t in stock, up by around 100t from late February.
"After we raised the price by RMB500/t (USD69/t) two weeks ago, we choose to hold our offer for expansible graphite 95 80 250 stable at RMB11,000/t (USD1,538/t) EXW D/A 180 days this week, and still don't accept any concession," a producer in northwest China revealed, explaining that the prices of large flake graphite already stabilized this week. They last sold about 10t at RMB11,000/t (USD1,538/t) this Monday. Considering the stabilized production cost and firm refusals to higher prices from regular clients, they intend to keep their prices unchanged and predict that the mainstream prices of Chinese expansible graphite would stay steady in the coming week.
With an annual production capacity of 20,000t, they recorded no output in February and expect an output of about 70t this month, holding about 20t in stock now, down by about 80t from late February.
