BEIJING (Asian Metal) 14 Mar 24 - Supported by the short supply and increased prices of large flake graphite, most expansible graphite producers raised their prices in the past week. The current mainstream prices of Chinese expansible graphite 99 80 250 stand at RMB12,000-12,500/t (USD1,690-1,760/t) EXW D/A 180 days, up by about RMB300/t (USD42/t) from early last week
"We now quote RMB13,000/t (USD1,830/t) EXW D/A 180 days for expansible graphite 99 80 250 and in fact refuse to sell at any prices lower than RMB12,500/t (USD1,760/t) to regular clients, while we quoted RMB12,500/t (USD1,760/t) and could sell at the price as low as RMB12,300/t (USD1,732/t) last week," a producer in Shandong claimed, adding that their supplier raised the price of flake graphite +895 by about RMB300/t (USD42/t) this week to nearly RMB8,000/t (USD1,126/t). They last sold about 40t at RMB12,600/t (USD1,774/t) early this week, compared to about 60t at RMB12,300/t (USD1,732/t) late last week . Holding no stock presently, they intend to lift their prices further as their raw material suppliers still remain in suspension at present . They believe that the mainstream prices of Chinese expansible graphite would rise further in the coming week.
Based on a production capacity of 25,000tpy, they produced about 14,000t in 2023 and expect a similar output this year. They plan to produce 1,000t in March, up by about 1,000t from February . Now they have no inventory, in line with late last month.
"We now offer RMB11,500/t (USD1,619/t) EXW D/A 180 days for expansible graphite 99 80 250 and refuse any concession, while we could sell at the price as low as RMB11,000/t (USD1,549/t) two weeks ago," a producer in northwest China disclosed, adding that they still remain in suspension for facility maintenance. They last sold about 20t at RMB11,500/t (USD1,619/t) early this week, compared to RMB11,000/t (USD1,549/t) two weeks ago. The producer added that the prices of raw material moved up by over RMB300/t (USD42/t) this month and might move up further supported by the shrank supply . Therefore, they plan to raise their prices further by the end of this month and believe that the mainstream prices of Chinese expansible graphite would increase further in the coming two weeks.
With an annual production capacity of 20,000t, they recorded no output in February and expect a same output this month, holding about 60t in stock now, down by about 40t from late February.
