Chinese silicon chrome prices down

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 13 Mar 24 – The current mainstream prices for Chinese silicon chrome Si42%min Cr30%min stand at RMB9,200-9,400/t (USD1,283-1,311/t) EXW D/P, down by about RMB200/t (USD28/t) from early last week. Insiders predict the mainstream pries for Chinese silicon chrome would keep edge down further within this month considering the weak demand.
A producer in Sichuan noted that they could purchase silicon chrome Si42%min Cr30%min at RMB9,200/t (USD1,283/t) EXW D/P this week, down by about RMB100/t (USD14/t) from early last week. "We purchased about 100t at RMB9,200/t (USD1,283/t) early this week and purchased about the same volume at RMB9,300/t (USD1,297/t) late last week", said the producer, who has no plan to resume production of silicon chrome within two month and predict that the mainstream pries for Chinese silicon chrome would keep edge down further within this month considering the weak demand.
The producer, with an annual production capacity of 25,000t of silicon chrome, have no plan to resume production in March. They halted production in December of 2023. They hold no stocks at the moment.
Another producer in Shanxi, who would not consider to resume production of silicon chrome this month due to thin profits, mentioned that they could purchase silicon chrome Si42%min Cr30%min at prices no higher than RMB9,300/t (USD1,297/t) this week, down by about RMB200/t (USD28/t) from last week. "We purchased about 300t at RMB9,300/t (USD1,297/t) early this week and purchased almost 200t at RMB9,500/t (USD1,325/t) early last week" said the producer, who anticipate that the mainstream pries for Chinese silicon chrome would keep edge down further within this month considering that most buyers purchased from hand to mouth at the moment.
On basis of an annual production capacity of 18,000t of silicon chrome, the producer would not like to resume production in March. They stopped production in January this year and hold no inventories presently.
