Xinjiang Xiangsheng to add 30ktpa of titanium sponge production capacity

Xinjiang Xiangsheng New Material Technology Co., Ltd. plans to invest around RMB2.59 billion (USD363 million) to build a 30,000tpa aviation grade titanium sponge project at Hami High-tech Industrial Development Zone in Xinjiang, according to the environmental impact assessment (EIA) of the project recently released for public disclosure.
The project includes capacity expansion and technical upgrade to the existing plant area by building production systems for titanium slag, titanium sponge, magnesium electrolysis and chlorine.
When completed, the project will add production capacity of 30,000 tonnes per annum of aviation grade titanium sponge, taking the company's total production capacity to 50,000tpa from the existing 20,000tpa. It will also produce byproducts, including 1,861.2 tonnes of low grade titanium sponge, 21,800 tonnes of steel linear plates and castings and 50,000t of wearable steel ball annually.
