Guixi Dajin to build low-oxygen copper rod and wire project

Guixi Dajin Copper Industry Co., Ltd. plans to build an expansion project with capacity of 100,000tpa of blister copper and 50,000tpa of low-oxygen copper rod and wire, according to the environmental impact assessment (EIA) issued by the Department of Ecology and Environment of Jiangxi Province.
The company plans to invest RMB780 million (USD109 million) to upgrade its existing 40,000tpa oxygen-free copper rod and wire project located at the southern part of the Guixi economic development zone in Jiangxi, to build production capacity of 100,000tpa of blister copper and 50,000tpa of low-oxygen copper rod and wire.
The expansion project will produce low-oxygen copper rod and wire instead of oxygen-free copper rod and wire and the raw material will change from copper cathode to copper scrap. It will also produce blister copper and black copper intermediate products. Other changes include adopting the method of smelting, optimizing environmental protection equipment, adding five 150-ton anode furnaces, expanding warehouse for storing solid and hazardous wastes, etc.
The expansion project is able to produce 50,000tpa of copper rod using copper scrap (average grade at 95% Cu) as the raw material, 30,000tpa of copper wire using copper rod as the raw material, and 100,000tpa of blister copper using copper scrap (average grade at 85% Cu) as the raw material.
