Wutai aims to become China's main producing area for Mg-alloy lightweight material

A promotion meeting was held recently in Wutai county to advance the construction of the 100,000tpa high-performance magnesium base lightweight alloy and die-casting deep processing project developed by Wutai Yunhai Magnesium Co., Ltd.
With a planned investment of RMB3.2 billion (USD441 million), the project broke ground in August 2022 and is expected to finish construction in late July 2024. The project is expected to achieve 100% comprehensive utilization of resources by establishing a complete magnesium industrial chain from ore mining to the production and deep-processing of magnesium alloy. When in full operation, it would generate industrial production value of RMB6 billion (USD826 million) and create 2,000 new jobs.
The project is the phase two of Wutai Yunhai's project portfolio for expanding processing application of magnesium alloy in the county. The company now actively pushes forward the phase one 50,000tpa magnesium alloy smelting project to realize stable production and promote the signing of phase three 100,000tpa magnesium alloy and deep-processing project.
Wutai has transformed Dongye into a special town for magnesium base alloy material industry with a complete industrial chain integrating the mining of dolomite, smelting of magnesium, production of magnesium alloy and the recycling of magnesium. So far, there are five dolomite mining companies for a total mining capacity of 324,000tpa, a magnesium casting company with capacity of 24,500tpa, and three magnesium-related companies above designated size in Dongye.
Next, Wutai aims to further expand and enhance the magnesium alloy industrial chain to become the main producing area for lightweight magnesium alloy in China.
