As of the end of 2022, Chinese steelmakers had completed ultra-low emissions transformation for 207 million tonnes of crude steel capacity, with sintered pellet desulfurization and denitrification and other upgrade projects for 480 million tonnes of crude steel capacity completed as well, together accounting for two thirds of the national total, said Liu Bingjiang, head of air quality management at the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE).
