According to International Tin Association (ITA), Bolivia's EM Vinto, the eighth largest tin producer in the world, has entered force majeure as it strives against coal supply shortage and debt issues.
Trade across Bolivia and Peru land border is severely restricted as ongoing protests blocked road in Peru's Puno region. With trade restricted, EM Vinto is struggling to source enough coal from Peru to power its smelter, triggering the force majeure. The company, which also faces financing issues in sourcing concentrate, could suffer production losses of up to 200t of tin per week.
