ICDA: Global HC ferrochrome production up by 5% YoY in 2022

Global ferrochrome production increased by 6% YoY to 15.54 million tonnes in 2022 as the lower output in Europe, CIS and the Middle East was offset by higher production in Asia. Of which, the annual production of HC ferrochrome and LC ferrochrome increased by 5% and 9% respectively compared to 2021, while MC ferrochrome production declined by 13%, according to data provided by the International Chromium Development Association (ICDA).
Most of the increase came from Asia with 8% in China and 24% in India, and production in Americas, Indonesia and the rest of Asia was up by 118%.
South Africa and Zimbabwe saw a slight increase of 0.5% YoY in ferrochrome production. Production in Western Europe, Albania and Turkey decreased by 20% YoY due to energy crunch and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Production in CIS and the Middle East declined by 3% YoY.
