Recently, with the approval of the Ministry of Natural Resources and the provincial government, the General Plan for Mineral Resources in Shanxi (2021-2025) was implemented. It is mentioned that by 2025, more than 20 large and medium-sized ore producing areas will be discovered, and 500-800 billion cubic meters of proved geological reserves of coalbed methane, 3 billion tons of coal, 480 million tons of bauxite, 700 million tons of iron ore, 100,000t of copper metal, 1.5t of gold metal, 30 million tons of graphite metal, 150,000t of titanium metal, and 16,000t of gallium metal will be increased.
By 2025, the annual production capacity of coal will keep stable within 1.56 billion tons, the annual output of the material will keep at 1.4 billion tons, and the number of coal mines will be around 900. The total annual mining volume of bauxite, iron ore and copper will reach 70-80 million tons, 60 million tons and about 11 million tons respectively.
