Shandong promotes nonferrous metal industry to reach peak carbon dioxide emissions

On December 28, 2022, Shandong Government issued the Implementation Plan for Carbon Peak of Shandong, which proposed to strengthen the clean and efficient utilization of coal. By 2025, the average power supply coal consumption of coal power generation units under normal working conditions will be reduced to about 295g of standard coal/kWh.
The plan also proposed to promote the carbon peak by encouraging to increase the proportion of secondary metal output and promoting new low-carbon technologies. New capacity of primary aluminum and alumina shall be strictly prohibited, and the capacity of copper cathode shall be strictly controlled. By 2025, the electricity consumption per ton of primary aluminum will be reduced to about 12,500 kWh.
