China Energy breaks ground on 11.2GW power projects

On December 26, China Energy Investment Corporation (China Energy) held the groundbreaking ceremony for the third batch of its key projects for 2022, including ten power projects with total installed capacity of 11.2GW.
With total investment of RMB55 billion (USD789 million), these ten projects include clean and high-efficiency coal-fired power plants, new energy power plants and pumped storage power plants, which will be located in nine provinces and regions, and more than 50% of the investment is planned for hydropower and new energy power projects. In 2022, China Energy already broke ground on 40 key projects with total investment exceeding RMB210 billion (USD30.14 billion). The company expects to see power projects with capacity up to 47GW begin construction by the end of this year, for a total of 70GW under construction to date.
