BEIJING (Asian Metal) 5 Sep 07 -- Seeing more consumers start to purchase cadmium, some suppliers raise their offers accordingly these days. Sources reported to Asian Metal that cadmium is offered as high as RMB60/kg (USD2.99/lb) today, up from RMB55/kg (USD2.74/lb) early this week. Is cadmium market ready to pick up?
An official from a major producer in Liaoning told Asian Metal that other producers in South China already raised cadmium prices to RMB60/kg (USD2.99/lb). “But some consumers can also get materials from other small sized producers at around RMB55-56/kg (USD2 . 74-2.79/lb) . So we’re wondering whether to raise the price or not,” said the source .
According to the source, consumers start to replenish cadmium stock for short of materials since demand of cadmium oxide already increases slightly. “But the increasing demand seems not enough to support the price to go up to RMB60/kg (USD2.99/lb) for the time being,” said the source who believes that the reasonable price should be around RMB55/kg (USD2.74/lb) in the current market .
Talking of the cadmium oxide market, an official from a producer in Hebei told Asian Metal that their consumers increase the purchasing amount slightly these days. “We already accepted 20t of cadmium oxide orders this week, but the total output of cadmium oxide was only 10-15t in August,” said the source. The source bought 10t of cadmium at RMB55/kg (USD2.74/lb) last week, but this week suppliers are not unwilling to sell again .
As demand of cadmium starts to recover while materials in the market are not so abundant, the source believes it is likely for the price to go up slightly. “But it’s still too early to judge how far the market will go . We have to note that the price in international market shows strong sign of dropping again,” said the source.
