China's Ulanqab city has launched a rectification campaign against backward production capacity to further upgrade its ferroalloy industry. By the end of 2022, the city shut down all common alloy submerged arc furnaces, including 55 submerged arc furnaces and refining furnaces for a combined capacity of 1.34 million tonnes per year, equivalent to energy consumption of 2 million tonnes of standard coal. A total of 29 ferroalloy producers were closed completely.
26 submerged arc furnaces for common alloy such as silicomanganese, HC ferromanganese and HC ferrochrome have completed the "air-tight" transformation by the end of March 2022. In addition, 17 of 34 submerged arc furnaces for special alloy also finished "air-tight" upgrade so far.
