EU releases final ruling on review of safeguard measures for imported steel products

On May 30, 2022, WTO Committee on Safeguards issued the notification on safeguard measures submitted by the EU delegation on May 26, 2022
On March 26, 2018, the EU Commission launched a safeguard investigation on imports of steel products. On January 31, 2019, the EU imposed an additional 25% duty rate on steel imports outside quotas . On December 17, 2021, the EU launched the fifth review of safeguard measures on imported steel products.

The EU announced to make a ruling on the review of safeguard measures of certain steel products before July 1, 2022 and announced preliminary changes in allocation and management of quotas, with a plan to increase the liberalisation rate of the safeguard from 3% to 4% . The measure will take effect from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2024 . The case involved 26 categories of steel products.
